I feel like I have spent too many hours at the computer this month!

I enrolled on a specialised jewellers’ business course in January. I have done years of jewellery training and studied Business at GCSE, but it felt like time for a proper refresher on running the business side of things.
|

Last month was all about goal setting. With help from my partner Gerry, I have written a detailed business plan for the year ahead. My artist’s brain tends to skim over the finer details, whereas he sees the things that need a deep dive - sure evidence that opposites really do attract!

A few years ago, thinking ahead, I knew that one day I might outgrow ‘inSilver’ if I started creating more gold pieces. So I secured the URL insilverandgold.co.uk. Recently I discovered that insilverandgold.com was available too, so I snapped that up as well! I have had the insilverandgold pages on Facebook and Instagram for some time, so my social media is already covered.

Part of my plan for this year is to level up and incorporate more gold into my collections. Another exciting branding refresh to add ‘and gold’ is currently in progress!

It's with great excitement that the Folkestone Harbour Marketplace reopens on Saturday 7th March! The hut has been empty since Christmas Eve and despite the maintenance team opening the doors once a week, it needs a good clean and airing! I'm looking forward to catching up with my fellow hut community traders and welcoming visitors again.

We will be opening weekends from 11-4 throughout March, then it will be 11-6 in April, just weekends and the Bank Holidays - Easter is earlythis year!

organiser always selects quality craftspeople and there is a good mixture of new and regular traders every month.

Have you visited Curio Emporium in Sandgate yet? I restocked my cabinet there at the beginning of the month, I had originally only gone for half of it, but it made far more sense to go for the full space! Owners of Curio, Freya and Patrick invite us to work one day per month there, I'm looking forward to my first stint on Friday 27th.

I received a commission for my dog lover friend Colette recently. She had to say goodbye to her beloved Labradoodle Louie after a short illness, and wanted memorial jewellery for him. She has had pendants from me in the past but this time wanted a ring. The design brief was a delicate ring with an Amethyst stone and his ashes encased in the ring. She didn't feel the need to see the ashes particularly, just to know they were there. We agreed on a simple bezel setting with Louie dogs ashes below the stone.

They say diamonds are a girl's best friend, but I wouldn't say no to an Amethyst!

I received these stones from a customer who bought them on a holiday in India. She had kept them in a jewellery box for a number of years, not knowing what to do with them. She had a significant Birthday last year and received one of my gift vouchers as a Birthday present and used it towards a ring commission. Michelle chose chunky bands to keep the proportions of the stones and they will be stunning when they come back from the stone setting company!

It has really spurred me on toget more big faceted gemstone pieces made. I finished these rings last weekend and celebrated with a glass or two of Prosecco!
